Everything you Need to Know About our No NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) Fees

Forget About Paying Non Recurring Engineering Fees
Finding the right EMS provider is about finding a manufacturer who can combine electrical engineering excellence with value for money. The DSL pledge on NRE fees is an example of how we tick both those boxes.
NRE fees can make getting a project off the ground a costly process and discourage innovation and development. The fact that we don’t charge them at all is emblematic of our commitment to working in genuine partnership with our clients.
Cutting NRE Fees Without Cutting Corners
NRE fees refer to the one-off costs associated with developing, designing and testing a new product. When you’re taking an idea from an initial concept and working to turn it into a fully-fledged, manufacture-ready design, NRE fees can soon add up.
The costs of configuring the production of a bespoke PCB tailored to the requirements of a specific project can mean dealing with everything from the end user cases to functionality and budget. These costs can often be front loaded, as attempts are made to lower future production costs and keep things like the bill of materials (BOM) down.
At DSL we like to work in close partnership with our clients, and that means that we treat your new product as our new product. We don’t want concerns over mounting NRE fees to get in the way of undertaking the most thorough development process possible. So we just don’t charge them.

Optimising Manufacture Without NRE Fees
The earliest stages of any EMS project are all about getting the details right. Make the right choices now and you’ll enjoy better results later on. Those results will include an efficiently functioning product manufactured with the minimum of waste and the lowest possible cost per unit.
The removal of NRE fees means that our clients feel able to devote as much time and energy as possible to the initial development or refinement of their product, working side by side with our expert electronic design engineering team. Everything from inspection and testing to the components needed will be optimised before we press ‘Go’ on production.
The NRE Fees You’ll Avoid With DSL
When you work with an EMS provider the NRE fees would usually be charged to cover the costs of aspects of development including the following:
- Designing and preparing a solder stencil for a bare PCB, planning for the configuration of particular components
- Programming an automated pick and place machine in a way which will optimise production and minimise the time and money spent on each PCB
- Programming the reflow oven into which the soldered PCB will be sent in order to ensure the quality and durability of the applied soldering
- Designing the testing systems that will ensure the finished PCB is fit for purpose
At DSL, the fact that we don’t charge NRE fees means that clients feel free to devote as much time as needed to these vital parts of any design and development process.
